Día de los muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a time for celebration. Day of the dead is a Mexican holiday that celebrates family members that have passed. It is a two day festival that takes place every November 1st and 2nd.
Día de los muertos is celebrated with food, drinks, parties, and fun activities that the deceased enjoyed when they were alive. People thought that the deceased would be upset that their family would be forlorn and mourning them, so instead they made día de los muertos fun.
The Day of the Dead was created by the Aztecs, Toltecs, and Nahua people several thousand years ago. The people in these cultures believed that the dead were still apart of the community. They believed that their spirit was still alive and that during dia de los muertos they would roam the earth.
The Day of the Dead is an incredibly popular holiday. The deceased have two days a year where they can come back and roam the earth. They are celebrated for their life, accomplishments, and eventually their death.
