The Battle of Iwo Jima started on February 19, 1945. And it ended on the 26th of March, 1945.

The Battle of Iwo Jima was against Japan and the United States. Many people died in this battle. There were 26,040 casualties in total. There was also 19,217 wounded. There was also 137 tanks destroyed in total. Many were taken prisoner including 218 soldiers. On this island, there were a lot of places to hide. There were about 11 miles of underground tunnels and many hidden artillery positions. Even though the Japanese had less wounded and dead, the United States still won.
